Leeds United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Saturday 18th April 2026 - Elland Road, Leeds
2025/26 Season
Well, what a week it’s been for Leeds United. After our win over the Pennines, I was still on cloud 9 days later and I think we all know what a lift it has given us all. To say I wasn’t nervous at all when we were over there but today was a different matter. I was ok until I started talking to other fans before the game and my stomach churning started. We had all agreed that we couldn’t sit back but had to go out and attack which is our best form of defence. For some reason that didn’t placate my stomach as it carried on churning even after the game. I’d been asked to go onto the Sky Sports Fan Hub again as a Starting XI for Leeds United for Fanalysis at 6pm where again I was very apprehensive. All went well though, but I’ve just found some rescue pastilles which helped to alleviate it all so think I’d better stock up for the next few weeks. I’m more than certain the stress levels will be high as I want us to win every game so badly as well as the FA Cup.
It was great to be asked to join a group of 150 Leeds fans from Norway yesterday who had chartered their own plane and were coming to the game. As well as a stadium tour with our great host David, I joined them at the Leonardo Hotel for dinner the only issue being I’d got the hotel in my head only to find out it was a different one when I got there. I went all around the houses before eventually finding it and realised I’d been following the car drive route and not the walking one, so my feet were killing me.
After there we ended up at the Moot Hall having a singing song with Paul Wilson before I headed for home. Despite checking online that there was a one-off charge for parking in the Trinity Centre after 5pm, I was charged £13.50 instead of the expected £6.50, ouch. There were more of our Norwegians at the game itself as well as our Irish fans and it was good to catch up with many of them yesterday/today.

With our first attack we came close to scoring the same as on Monday, but we didn’t get our first goal so early this time. Gudmundsson got away on the wing and although Calvert-Lewin got to the ball as it was veering away from goal, it was smothered by their keeper. I felt we needed that early goal as signs indicated (which I knew they would), that Wolves would not lay down and give up without a fight for us. Calvert-Lewin again came close when his shot was kicked off the line. From a Tanaka corner, Bijol headed down and Ampadu brought a great save out of their keeper, but the ball stayed in the area. Okafor headed down and next thing a spectacular overhead kick from Justin saw the ball nestling in the middle of the net. That’s what we needed to allay my fears.
To make things even better we came out of defence a couple of minutes later with Aaronson making a great run down the wing towards the south stand. He sent a fantastic cross into the middle and Okafor on the end of it made it two. As Elland Road erupted the noise was incredible. I was still on tenterhooks despite the two-goal lead as we were very lucky that both Bijol and then Calvert-Lewin were on hand to kick the ball off the line to prevent Wolves pulling a goal back. To me it still showed we were somewhat vulnerable to their attacks as they still kept trying.
The start of the second half saw Darlow make a fantastic save from a header after a Wolves corner. That gave Wolves some belief as they kept running at us but thankfully despite getting the better of our defence, the shot was wide of our goal. Aaronson was fouled but he retaliated by shoving their player who went down like a sack of spuds. He needed lengthy treatment although I’ve no idea why. I did think we needed to replace Aaronson before this as I thought he’d run himself into the ground. Just as their player was sorted, the linesman in front of the East Stand decided he couldn’t carry on any longer. What a farce, because another five minutes had passed before the game restarted and all I could think of was that we would have 10 minutes of injury time added on.
Well, I was right about that, but thankfully the extra minutes worked in our favour. We were ready to bring on a triple sub, and I’d decided that Calvert-Lewin would be one that Farke was taking off. With that Gnonto put a great ball through to him and he was brought down for a cast iron penalty. Calvert-Lewin took it himself and he made no mistake to score to put the game beyond Wolves and at least not make it a stressful ending to the game. Prior to that my heart sank as it looked like Wolves had pulled one back, but it was a relief to see it was chalked off for offside. Another win and three precious points from our first back-to-back win, but although I’m positive, we are staying up anyway, I won’t rest until it’s a mathematical certainty.
I auditioned for some filming in London for next week but although I was shortlisted, as I’ve heard nothing, I assume I didn’t get through. Never mind because it was good to be shortlisted anyway plus with Bournemouth and the FA Cup semi-final to look forward to, it will take a bit of pressure away from me.
