Terry Yorath - A Tribute

I’ve just heard the heartbreaking news that Terry Yorath, one of our true legends from Don Revie’s iconic Leeds United side, has passed away after a short illness. On my way back from Newcastle last night, I saw that his daughter Gabby Logan had stepped away from her broadcasting role due to a family emergency, and my heart sank. Knowing Terry had recently been in hospital, I feared the worst. It’s another painful reminder that the heroes of our greatest era are leaving us, and each loss feels personal to those of us who grew up watching them.

What makes this even harder is that I had only been talking about Terry the day before, wanting to make sure he was invited to the Billy Bremner gala dinner in May. That somehow makes the news feel even more raw. These men weren’t just footballers; they were the fabric of Leeds United. They taught us what it meant to fight for the badge, to believe, and to stand tall. Terry was part of a team many of us still regard as the greatest we’ve ever seen, and his place in our history is forever.

On a deeply personal level, my heart has always gone out to the Yorath family. Having lost my own baby daughter, and knowing they endured the unimaginable pain of losing their precious son Daniel, I felt a lasting connection to their grief. Terry also carried the trauma of the Bradford Fire—more than most people should ever have to bear—yet he remained a figure of dignity and strength. Thank you, Terry, for the memories and the pride. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace.
