Agder Whites – Leeds -ArendalsHelga 2026,
10-12th July 2026
What a privilege it has been spending the weekend with our Norwegian Leeds fans at their weekend event. Travelling from the UK were Ben Parker, Martin, Gareth, Paul Wilson, Chris and Janette P, Simon and Tracy Lorimer, Bella Chris who had been there since the day before and Ross McCormack joining us from Glasgow, so I was in good company. It’s been fantastic from start to finish and I’ve loved every minute. With a group of us setting off from Yorkshire we arrived at Stockport International airport in plenty of time, but the flight was delayed by two hours due to mist affecting flights first thing.
Eventually, after a quick smooth flight we were through passport control where our minibus and car transport drivers were there to meet us. After catching up with sleep we arrived at our first destination by the lake where we had a warm welcome from everyone there.
Our next stop was the prison for an evening of entertainment, plus most of us were staying there for the night. My room was a “prison cell” complete with an opening in the door where the wardens could check on the inmates. With bars still on the windows, it still had that traditional look about it although with a modern touch. The drinks were flowing for most people although as usual I stuck with diet coke and water. As everyone mixed, sang and had a good time, the highlight of the evening for me was when they sang Alt for Norge (All for Norway) which resonated with me immediately. Sung part in Norwegian then in English, I thought it was wonderful especially when they sang it with such passion which I found infectious. I also loved singing along to The King of Elland Road with Paul Wilson.
At the end of the evening I was going to head to bed having been up since 5am but then joined a small group heading down to the pub by the docks. Being let in because you were a Leeds United fan was a highlight too! Eventually we left the last two there and headed back to the prison and bed. After falling asleep I woke up straight away and was wide awake for hours meaning I only had two hours sleep when I eventually dropped off.
Saturday had lots of activities scheduled plus they couldn’t have planned it better with the Norway v England World Cup game on later in the evening. We dropped our cases at Thon Hotel then went to the same pub as the night before and I hung my flag up on the fence. We were treated to a speedboat ride and on my return, I was told I would be on the first boat going to the island. As we walked to where the performance would be, I reached into my bag to put my flag up. Shock and horror hit me when I realised that it was still hung up at the pub but was assured it would still be there on our return (it was). On a very hot afternoon the setting was beautiful with the sea behind as a backdrop as we had another great outdoor performance.
On our return and after retrieving my flag, I got checked in to my room and then went straight to the roof terrace where we were eating before watching the football. There was a great atmosphere, and I was glad I was there to share the evening with great people.
After breakfast on our last day where I sat overlooking the water, I decided to have a walk around before going back to my room to pack and have a nap. We all then headed to the home of Terje Ulven to spend the afternoon there before heading to the airport and home.
I cannot thank them all enough for inviting me to join them especially when I was looked after so well. There is nothing better than being amongst our fans, anywhere in the world, who couldn’t do enough for you, and I am proud to call them my friends.
