Norwich City v Leeds United

Saturday 1st October 2024 - Carrow Road, Norwich

2024/25 Season

The one thing I can say about Leeds United fans is that we have a fantastic camaraderie that has been built up over many years and we all look after each other. They are what keeps our club going through thick and thin and they are second to none. You all know who you are, but the love and support for my family and I can never be underestimated, and I thank you all. For anyone who missed by reel, my husband has been in hospital and is due home Wednesday and will be under the palliative care team going forward.

On arrival at Norwich, we were dropped off at the ground but had to wait outside whilst we waited for Nikki’s carer. We build up quite a rapport with the Norwich stewards especially one who supported Arsenal whilst we were waiting. It’s nice for football fans to be treated as human beings because as we all know, that doesn’t happen at every ground.

Team: Meslier, Struijk (captain as Ampadu out injured until Christmas), Bogle, Firpo, Rodon, Gnonto, Tanaka (making his first start), Gruev, Joseph, Aaronson, Ramazani

Subs not used: Darlow, Crew, Debayo, Chambers

Leeds drew the game 1-1 with Ramazani equalising for Leeds (60)

Attendance: 26,261, 2,022 Leeds fans.

Referee: Stephen Martin.

Booked: Struijk, Rothwell, Bogle, Gnonto

I’ve moved my tickets for the away games nearer the front of the stand, so it feels a different game watching it close up. Leeds looked lively at the start as we attacked the goal to the right of us. We won a corner but all I could see was Gnonto in the centre surrounded by giants. We nearly got caught out then as Norwich counter attacked us, but they were awarded a penalty not long afterwards. I had to watch replays to see why it was awarded as I wasn’t sure why it was given. I can’t wear my glasses and take photos at the same time so have to rely on the zoom to see the far side of the pitch. They duly scored from it, but Leeds nearly came back with an instant reply. Gnonto kept the ball in on the bye line and worked his way back into the middle of the box before unleashing a shot that came back off the foot of the post. Leeds won a free kick when Ramazani was brought down on the edge of the box. Rothwell’s free kick rebounded off the Norwich wall and Gnonto then saw his deflected shot on target saved by the keeper.

The second half saw Leeds still a goal down but trying to get back into the game. Rothwell’s shot was on target but easily saved by their keeper. The linesman in front of us was terrible, he was never up with play missing at least three offsides by Norwich plus he never flagged for any fouls in front of him that would have benefitted us. To be honest, he may well have stayed in the dressing room! I had to laugh when I saw a young Norwich fan to the left of us with his scarf tied around his head. It just took me back to my youth as it is something I used to do myself. It was also nice to spot some of our fans in that direction too. Leeds got an equaliser after Struijk picked out Gnonto and he put a perfect pass in for Ramazani to hit a sweet first time shot into the net. Gnonto then got booked for protesting when he was brought down in the area but realistically it should have been a penalty to us. Norwich were definitely quick off the break and at times looked like they would overwhelm us. At other times if felt like a bit of a practise game. Leeds were happy to settle for the draw in the end as we have another game on Friday at Sunderland, so I think we were all happy with a point as not getting defeated was the main thing. I know I didn’t want Aaronson back at Leeds, but I’ll give him his due, he is now letting his talking happen on the pitch as he never stops trying.

We had a decent journey back and I did manage to get some sleep on the coach having listened to music both ways. I am still hoping to make it to Sunderland on Friday as today has shown that I was totally exhausted and being able to get away has done me the world of good.

See you soon, LUFC – Marching on Together!

Leeds United legends Evening - Bilton Club, Harrogate 6th June 2025 Having been one of the lucky ones to have seen in person the greatest Leeds United team under Don Revie, it was nice to get another chance to go and see club legends Paul Reaney and Eddie Gray, along with the former Leeds United & England goalkeeper of the 90s and early 2000's, Nigel Martyn, one of our newer legends. It was another great night listening to stories from the past despite having heard some of these before, as I, and any true Leeds fan, could listen to them for hours! A poignant note before the start made me catch my breath, as a presentation was made to someone whose wife had recently died from terminal cancer. Although it didn’t deter from a great evening, hearing those words again had a bullseye hit as I had to stop myself from crying. There are always going to be ups and downs since my husband’s death which then had an impact on my social media posts, but with the support of the Leeds United family as always, I know I can count on you all to get me through the tough times. A selection of Leeds United Songs from 1960 to the present day, sung by Leeds United fans Friday 6th June 2025 On 2nd September 2023, I was lucky to be invited into the director’s box at Elland Road to watch the game against Sheffield Wednesday alongside Mick Hewitt, Gary Edwards and Tony Winstanley. We had finally achieved our ambition of recording Leeds United Chants and Songs from the terraces, that had to overcome the hurdles of being curtailed during the covid pandemic and many other challenges. Both the Leeds United Foundation and the Leeds United Academy received equal shares of the £6,605.16 proceeds of our CD sales after costs had been taken, and we were extremely proud to hand this amount over to officials at Leeds United. As always, none of us were gaining anything personally from sales, it was always going to be for the good of our club. The good news is that 99 of these songs and chants are now available on Spotify HERE for anyone who prefers to download their music. Again, any money raised will be shared between the Leeds United Foundation and the Leeds United Academy so please continue to support the club. Below is the introduction for the songs to give some context to the recordings plus the thank you to all those Leeds United fans who took part. Sadly, we have lost some of those who were there for the recordings since then.

Paris 1975 – 50th Anniversary 28th May 2025 I cannot believe it is 50 years to the day that I set off for Paris for the European Cup Final. Initially I didn’t get one of the 8,000 tickets for the game despite it being my 70th game of the season but ended up with two. I was going with or without a ticket and got mine through my friend Carole’s season ticket as she got one with her programme tokens as well. By travelling with the club to the final it meant I got a further ticket as we’d travelled to Barcelona in the previous round with them. One lucky Leeds fan who I knew was the recipient of the second ticket for face value outside the ground. Sadly, when we finally got to our hotel, we had to wait to be allocated our rooms before heading to the ground which took ages. I always regretted not going with the Harrogate trip as we did to Anderlecht earlier in the competition as I felt we missed out on the build up to the game by getting there late. We did manage to walk around the ground to soak up the atmosphere once we arrived and it was good to get photos and have our photos taken by loads of Leeds and German fans before going into the ground. I had a fantastic view behind the goal on the front row of the upper tier next to the clock. The whole night was magical from the start, and it had been perfect, with Leeds fans singing na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, Leeds United for the first time. It was an incredible feeling being in the stadium and when Peter Lorimer smashed the ball into the net in front of us, I immediately looked at the linesman and referee only to see them both award a goal before celebrating. It was only when Beckenbauer went over to the referee that things started to change and we couldn’t believe it when the goal was disallowed. I’ll never forget being cheated out of our rightful trophy and we will always be Champions of Europe. WACCOE. My first book Follow Me and Leeds United includes all my recollections from this game and the previous rounds for those interested.
