West Ham v Leeds United
Sunday 24th May 2026 at The London Stadium
2025/26 Season
As we headed to the capital for our last game of the season, it was a lovely feeling knowing we could just go and enjoy the game without any pressure on us, but it was on West Ham as they had a mountain to climb to send Spurs down instead. The odds were stacked against them from the start as they were two points behind and had an inferior goal distance. I still wanted Leeds to win to get to 50 points but as it was, they got their win and were still relegated. Whilst there was still a good atmosphere within the stadium, they have lots of behind-the-scenes issues as a club with high debt and fans against the owners, which reminded me of what we had to overcome to be where we are today. At least we did enough to have a comfortable end of the season and are staying in the Premier League.

The referee set his stall out very early in the game giving many free kicks to West Ham some for innocuous challenges, together with handing bookings to our players. It was a beautiful scorching day where play was stopped for water breaks. Although West Ham put plenty of pressure on us in the first half, I wasn’t too worried as I felt we were only in second gear. Even playing across the back didn’t send me into a panic as it would have done if we had to depend on a win to stay up. That said in the final minutes of the first half, Darlow made two vital saves on the line although we had been unlucky not to score earlier when Calvert-Lewin saw their keeper make a good save to keep us out.
Although we started off the second half with Aaronson having a shot saved by their keeper, we didn’t get going at all. Despite West Ham scoring three goals and getting the win, for once I wasn’t too despondent because we had nothing riding on the game. We stayed to see our players come and say thank you then made our way back to the coaches.
After meeting myself coming backwards so many times over the last few months, it was great to see our fundraising event for a statue for Billy in his hometown of Raploch, Stirling finally take place the day before West Ham in the Gary Speed Suite.
I want to thank everyone who came and supported us plus a big thank you to our legends Paul Reaney, David Harvey, Allan Clarke and Mick Jones who played alongside Billy in our greatest Leeds United team ever. Thank you also to Glynn Snodin, Neil Aspin and Tommy Wright who all played for Billy for sharing their stories with the help of Jed Stone. Thank you to Billy’s daughter Amanda and her family who attended and for the flowers which are greatly appreciated.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I appreciate every comment. The Leeds United staff should also accept praise for providing the best meal that has been made at Elland Road. That compliment was said to me by many of our guests in attendance, so they can be proud of what they provided.
To keep up to date with our events and fundraising, please follow my website https://www.followmeandleedsunited.co.uk/billy-bremner---statue-appeal for further details where donations can be made directly into the SFSA account who are our fundholders. The silent auction is still ongoing for a few days https://astarauction.com/billybremnergala, our online raffle is still live https://app.galabid.com/billy-bremner-legend and our four Billy Bremner badges are still proving popular all priced at £5 each.
I’m looking forward to a bit of recuperation for a few days now after out very successful event and the last game now played.
As one of our lads got off the coach when we arrived back, he said, “What are we going to do over the summer?” Personally, I am joining the Norwegians in Arendal for a weekend, going to the USA for the preseason tour and then to Dublin. I’d made a promise to myself when my husband died that I was going to make the most of things whilst I can and after initial doubts about the cost, decided I’d kick myself if I didn’t go. Thank you to Mick Hewitt for making these latter two trips possible because without his efforts, I just wouldn’t have tried.
Enjoy the close season but it won’t be long until we start planning for next season as the fixtures come out on 19th June. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed reading my blogs, watched my reels and/or followed me this season. As always, the support has been greatly appreciated, and I will reiterate that Leeds United fans are second to none!
See you soon.
