Leeds United v RB Leipzig
Saturday 8th August 2026 at Elland Road
Pre-season - 2026/27 Season
Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to all our helpers who came bucket collecting at Elland Road today to help raise funds for the Raploch, Stirling statue for Billy Bremner, Leeds United’s greatest captain. We raised a total of £466.44 and are grateful to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser. Every contribution helps and as we have such a large worldwide fanbase, if we could get as many as possible to contribute even a small amount, we would get to our target sooner rather than later. Also a big thank you to my granddaughter Laura who spent three hours counting all the money.
Keep up to date with everything we are doing to raise funds for the statue via my website Here
Many people took the QR code which links to the new GoFundMe account, and this is available for anyone who would like to donate to the statue fund.

When we headed to the turnstiles into the Kop, they were queuing from just inside the gates from Lowfields Road. We walked past the long queue and were relieved to find our normal turnstiles had a much shorter queue. Just managed to get into our seats as the game was ready to kick off. It was weird seeing the West Stand empty as we get ready for the new stand to be built behind it. By the time we play Brentford, the works behind the stand for the walkway being built so fans can get into the West Stand, should be ready.
There were two 60-minute games today with a hydration break during each game. On a very hot day, and with the game being a typical preseason friendly which was mainly about getting playing time and match fitness, it felt far too long so please can we stick to our normal game time in future. Admittedly, I was flagging during the game. Having travelled back from our preseason tour to America on Tuesday without sleeping, plus the pressure of sorting everything out for the bucket collection today, the jet lag hit me and I felt exhausted.
Team first half: Cairns, Muharemovic, Rodon, Ampadu, Calvert-Lewin, Bogle, Justin, James, Longstaff, Wilson, Bornauw.
Team second half: Cairns, Muharemovic, Justin, Bogle, Wilson, Tanaka, Stach, Bijol, Aaronson, Lienou, Nmecha.
Subs: Mills for Wilson (75), Gnonto for Bogle (90), Cresswell for Muharemovic (90), Chadwick for Justin (90).
Attendance: 24,630 Leeds fans. No Leipzig fans in attendance as far as I’m aware.
Score: Leeds won 2-0 overall Calvert-Lewin (7), Nmecha (109).
Referee: Craig Pawson.
Leeds got off to an impressive start when the ball ended up in the net at the South Stand within three minutes with the referee blowing for a foul. Looking back at it later on the replay, Muharemovic jumped for the ball and on his way down knocked their player who fell to the floor. As it was this started the pattern where every time they fell to the floor it was a free kick whereas, he’d let something go for us then immediately blow the whistle for them. Nothing changes.
A few minutes later a great bit of play out from the back when Bogle sent a great ball to Rodon who ran from the halfway line and sent a great cross into the middle where Calvert-Lewin made no mistake to put us into the lead. The game became a typical preseason game for fitness and game time. We had a hydration break then half time in between the two games.
The second game after the hydration break ended up being one of the longest halves as it dragged. The game had quietened down, and it was only when Gnonto came on as a sub, things livened up a bit. We scored a second goal after a good run from Aaronson on the wing saw him pass to Gnonto in the goal area, who pulled the ball back and Nmecha made no mistake. Cresswell hit the crossbar just before the end of the game, but it was great to hear the final whistle go bringing the game to an end.
Before we play our second preseason home game next week against Augsburg, midweek sees us travel to Dublin on my birthday for our game at Croke Park which is a sellout, against man u. The last time we travelled to a preseason game on my birthday was to Molenbeek in Belgium in 1977. Looking forward to heading to the Camden again before the game and meeting up with many of our fans there.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
