2026/27 Season
Welcome to the first Premier League game of the 2026-27 season as we travelled to our away game in Nottingham. It’s been a whirlwind of a preseason having already attended so many games, but I had a good feel about the forthcoming season. To me, it’s been one of the best preseasons for a long time, and we look strong as a team with a good team spirit. We have had a change of personnel with Meslier and Darlow already gone but this week Piroe went to West Ham and Bornauw to Hamburg as well as Nico Elvedi joining us. I was glad to see Gelhardt got a permanent deal at Hull City, and I wish him luck as long as he doesn’t score against us. As always, I will always make my decisions by what I see happening on the pitch.
To say I was on a high getting ready for this weekend was an understatement only for an emotional meltdown to hit me out of the blue after dropping my grandkids off yesterday, where I wanted to sob all the way home. I know I will get over it as usual once I’ve slept on things so headed to bed before midnight (that’s early for me) only to be wide awake at 3.30 am knowing I’d to get up for a football game. My mind was on fire with so many things going through my head that I even tried to do my Duolingo German at 4.30am as I normally fall asleep whilst doing it. Well not this time and I think I eventually dropped off about half an hour before I was due to get up. I was still up, out of the door and in Leeds in plenty of time for the coach though. After our Wetherspoons stop, I found my breakfast was one of the better ones I’d had in their pubs so actually enjoyed it. After having cold feet earlier in the day, I was going to take my jumper in with me until someone said it was going to be a warm one. Well they weren’t wrong as the sun came out and I could have done with my shorts on.

Trafford, Muharemovic and Wilson were making their Premier League debuts. The Leeds team were the first to have the ball in the Forest net when Wilson looked to score on his debut, but the goal was disallowed for offside. That was a shame as I predicted a 2-0 win before the game. I don’t get scores right very often though, so I think I’m a poisoned chalice in that respect (although if I count the disallowed goal, I technically did get the score right!) Forest had a long throw from which Trafford made an impressive save on the line but although we had plenty of men in defence, they still made the chance. Forest were causing us all sorts of problems in the box as they hit the post but luckily for us, we managed to clear the ball but that was a narrow escape. The one thing that stood out at times was our marking left some of their players in acres of space.
The second half saw Leeds come forward towards the Leeds fans and Aaronson saw his shot comfortably saved by the keeper. Forest then looked the more dangerous of the two sides and their best chance saw their man clear through the middle but thankfully for us, he dragged his shot wide. Muharemovic saw his header pushed round the post from their keeper but that was a great attempt. With the minutes ticking down, Leeds won a free kick to the right of the goal. I was telling Stach to hit it straight into the net, and he did exactly that as the Leeds fans went wild. Instead of us being able to celebrate with the team, those of us at the front had to contend with a line of stewards stood immediately in front of us making it impossible to see. That didn’t stop us celebrating though and it was great to end the game with the win and the three points. It was a very happy Leeds support singing United Are Back at the end.
Thank you to everyone who has been supporting our fundraising for the statue of Billy Bremner in his hometown of Raploch, Stirling. The Garforth Whites are holding a fundraiser next Sunday 30th August after the Brentford Home game with a 7pm start at Garforth Working Men’s Club where Tony Dorigo will be the guest speaker. Please come and support us if you can and contact Cam Newcombe on either Facebook or Instagram to find out how to obtain tickets. There is also a Stirling Football Hall of Fame night on Friday 28th at Stirling Rugby Club organised by the SFSA. Billy Bremner will be honoured at this event so if you can support this then please do. Please also keep sharing our GoFundMe page too https://www.gofundme.com/f/raploch-stirling-a-statue-for-billy-bremner as well as the online raffle. Any tickets already bought will be included in the next raffle draw which will be soon. Tickets can still be bought for all future raffles on https://app.galabid.com/billy-bremner-legend/items/
The last prize the signed Elland Road sign was won by Danny Gibson who is the Labour Councillor for Stirling North Ward on Stirling Council and Raploch where Billy lived is part of the ward. He said, “I’m delighted to have won this prize in the raffle, and I am looking into further local opportunities to use the prize to raise even more funds towards the statue fundraising effort!”. I am also still selling the Billy Bremner badges.
It was nice to see some of our Norwegian fans had laid a wreath at Billy’s statue for Ottar Kvalheim who didn’t make it home after our game in Dublin last week. I’m glad I went to the statue to see it when we got back to Leeds as the wind had blown it over and I had to go and find his picture which had blown away.
Tuesday sees us back at the City Ground but this time for the Carabao Cup game. Winning breeds winning for me, but I expect the fringe players to play a part in this game, but I still want to come away with a win.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
