Man Utd v Leeds United
Monday 13th April 2026 - Old Trafford
2025/26 Season
There’s only one United, LEEDS!
Still buzzing since I got back from the game as I’m sure all Leeds fans are. In my reel this morning I said we needed that fighting spirit and never giving up attitude as we head over the Pennines. It will no doubt be a tough one, but we can do it. A draw would be a good result and a win a bonus. Well, I got my wish for a precious win plus three points. I was on BBC Radio 5 Live before the game and they asked me to go on after it too but sadly just as I was waiting to go on, the sound went and I lost them. That was just typical as I was getting ready for the bragging rights! Never mind, I did get a good response from the earlier interview and was told I should be in the dressing room, and I’m pleased to say the players listened to my team talk!
Thank you to the Yorkshire Evening Post for their write up and support for the Billy Bremner Gala Dinner on 23rd May. It promises to be a great celebration especially after we win the FA Cup so come and join us if you can!!!
I got a very negative comment last week from Vince Brockie on WACCOE who said that my blogs and books are written by a seven-year-old, oh dear. I know I will never ever please everyone, but I am going to carry on being me, doing what I do and will not change. Obviously, I’m like a kid in a sweet shop tonight but also the name of our opposition has to be in lower case too as old habits die hard, so the description maybe isn’t far wrong…..
Well done to Lewis Deighton for his documentary which I appeared in, on the rivalry between us and man u that was released over the weekend, as the good luck charm worked a treat just like his Chelsea one did.
What I was very disappointed to see before kick-off, was one of the man u mascots standing on the foot of one of our mascots. My initials thoughts were that he stamped on him but as I’ve only got a photo and it happened so quick, I was hoping I was mistaken.

Leeds got off to the greatest start we could have asked for by opening the scoring in the fifth minute. A challenge from Calvert-Lewin from a Bogle cross, saw their player’s header drop at Okafor’s feet for him to score. Two minutes earlier we had already had a good chance when a great run down the wing by Gudmundsson saw Calvert-Lewin’s shot saved by the keeper’s feet. With Leeds on top, we continued attacking with headers bouncing around their area when Okafor once again hit a great shot that deflected from their player into the net. The ecstatic Leeds fans were over the moon to see us two goals up after half an hour’s play. We were very unlucky not to get a third when Tanaka saw his shot cleared off the line as Leeds capitalised on a bad clearance. Although Leeds had most of the game in the first half, we had to thank Bijol earlier for some good defensive work to keep them out.
I knew there was always a chance man u would get back into the game as they came out with more fight at the start of the second half. Great defending from Darlow and then headed off the line by Justin kept them out. A long kick from Darlow saw Calvert-Lewin turn their player only to see him yanked back by his hair. Play carried on for what seemed ages before we saw VAR was looking at the incident with the ref called over to the screen. At that moment no one knew what it was for until their player was sent off. To be honest it made them fight more as we decided to play more defensively which did let them into the game. I know we can’t go for it for 90 minutes but by playing deep, it invites trouble. They pulled one back with a cross to the far post which was headed past Darlow into the net. They were very close to an equaliser when Calvert-Lewin headed off the line with Darlow beaten. For once luck was on our side and it was great to beat them for the first time since Brian Flynn’s goal, 45 years ago, wow.
With games coming thick and fast the next challenge is trying to get tickets for my family for the FA Cup semi-final. I know we are guaranteed our season tickets, but I have had no luck since the new system has been in place with our members whenever I have applied for them. Hopefully I will be lucky this time.
