Leeds United v man u
Sunday 18th October 2026 at Elland Road
2026/27 Season
After an emotional week with the second anniversary of my husband’s death, our sad tears turned to joy with the news my middle daughter was having a baby. I’m sure her dad is looking down on her. I had to have a chilled-out week due to the stitches in my neck from my skin biopsy (which are now out), which probably did me the world of good, in readiness for the Bremner on the Road at the Holbeck Working Men’s Club on Saturday evening. Thank you to everyone who came, as a group of us continued talking about our support of Leeds United for hours afterwards, which of course was great. It was also great to be able to hand over to Dave Wadsworth our latest prize from the online raffle for Billy’s Raploch statue.
We headed into Leeds early today on a chilly morning, to go to the Moot Hall where Simon Grayson was coming for a Q&A session and he made my granddaughter’s day by pulling our raffle ticket number out to win an away shirt, so thank you. It was a quick visit to both the Holbeck and Peacock before heading to Billy’s statue as I was hoping to meet a couple who were over for the game from Australia. Sadly despite waiting for 40 minutes, I didn’t see them due to them being in hospitality, but I met many others which was lovely. Thank you to everyone who came up to me for the chats and photos which are always appreciated. Whilst waiting at Billy’s statue, I was interviewed by a lad from a Russian YouTube channel who was attending his first game at Elland Road and also by a couple of young lasses from Limbz, from Instagram. I did have to tell her there was only one United though, Leeds! I haven’t seen what I’d been filmed for by Premier League Productions in the run up to this game, but a friend’s grandson saw me on the TV in America so it could possibly have been released there first?
As I took my usual photo of the away fans at the start of the game, I was quite surprised to see their fans lacking wearing their colours which surprised me. It was understandable if they travelling my train, but they brought coaches of fans too.

Although I’d heard they weren’t playing well and if they lost today Carrick would be sacked, it was important to remember they were playing Leeds United today. It has always been the case that teams would always raise their game when playing us and today was no different. With the referee surpassing last week’s one, as we played another one of the “top six” clubs, every challenge when they went down like a ton of bricks meant they were awarded a free kick. Yes, some were fouls that’s for sure, but when the same happened to us it meant play on more often than not. Is it too much to ask for a level playing field when playing other teams?
As it was Leeds had most of the game, sometimes with slow build ups across the back as we tried to probe a way through their defence. We had a great chance when their keeper made a spectacular save from Elvedi’s downward header after we had a rare free kick, from Stach. They had a header go wide with their player unmarked in the box, when it looked like it would sneak into the bottom corner of the net. Trafford then went sprinting out of his area to get to the ball before their attacker and I didn’t think he stood any chance of getting their first but was proved wrong. The sigh of relief didn’t last long though as despite us having a lot of the play, it was them who went into the lead on the half hour mark. They made it looked simple as two combined to beat Gudmundsson on the wing, before a pass into the middle saw their player beat our defence and put the ball into the net. The atmosphere had been electric, but it was good to see the Kop immediately start chanting for Leeds once they scored which reminded me of our fans in the 80s. It did go flat for a short while after that before the break, but it wasn’t quiet for long as we went in still a goal down at half time.
The game wasn’t over because one thing we do know is that we have a team of fighters who never give up. When Stach put his corner into the box, Muharemovic headed the ball down and Calvert-Lewin slammed the ball into the net in front of the Kop as Elland Road erupted. There’s nothing like getting a goal at home with the crowd behind the team which is a wonderful feeling. We should have been awarded a penalty when Maguire had his arms round Ampadu’s neck and dragged him down in the penalty area. Sadly for us there wasn’t even a VAR check. Why not as it was blatant? As the minutes ticked down on the clock and the whistle blew for full time, the main thing was that we got a draw and another welcome point. We’ve come a long way as a team which bodes well for the future. As we headed to Billy’s statue as normal after the game, it was a surprise to see that their fans had been escorted past the South Stand straight after the game. We decided to stay put at the statue as the last thing we wanted was something kicking off behind us as we headed back to the car.
With the next two games away from home at Sunderland and Bournemouth, here’s hoping that we carry on in the same way.
See you there, LUFC, Marching on Together!
