Leeds United v Manchester City
28th February 2026 at Elland Road
2025/26 Season
Firstly, for all those who follow my blog, I want to apologise for the late posting last week due to technical issues outside of my control. When technology works it is great, but when it doesn’t it’s ……….!
It’s been a busy week for me once again as I was interviewed alongside my granddaughter Alexis for TNT Sports which should be aired for the Norwich game. If you are a young fan who started going about 20 years ago ideally a southstander or kopite and are a good talker, then get in touch with me asap. I can pass your name on, as there may be a possibility of an interview in Leeds on Monday around midday.
Yesterday, I was invited to join a group of Malta Whites at their event at Elland Road where I was warmly welcomed, being on the receiving end of photos for once as well as signing autographs. It was nice to see an article I did for them appear in their Commemorative booklet too. It was great to see both Paul Reaney and Eddie Gray in attendance as well as other guests. We have a fantastic Worldwide fanbase which is great to see. As well as wanting to go back to Gibraltar, it looks like Malta must be on my bucket list too.
Today will obviously be a crucial and hard game but that said, we know we can put them under pressure. A game of two halves at the Etihad where we were down and out at half time. Whatever happened during that break saw a revival by us, where we were unlucky, they had to use time wasting tactics to stop us scoring again. We are under the lights, we are at home and we will have the twelfth man of our passionate support behind us. Just believe we can get something out of the game and do us proud Leeds – MOT.
That was my rallying cry before the game but as we all know now, we suffered a narrow defeat, but we still put in a battling performance and I’m proud of the lads for never giving up. Having just seen the deliberate stamping on Gruev online, why was VAR not looking at this during the game? As far as I’m concerned it is a waste of space anyway because it all boils down to interpretations by people who have their own preferences depending on who the teams are. There were a few other incidents in the game today that never got a look in plus it was a poor performance by the referee today. A big shout out to one of the Japan Whites who made it to the game today after a 30-hour trip. Fantastic support so well done.

In a game where we knew we needed to take our chances when they were there, Calvert-Lewin came close twice, the first after a great pass from Aaronson and later Justin forced an easy save out of their keeper. We were playing well and it was only in the last 15 minutes of the half that City started to put pressure on us. Darlow made a fantastic save and then from the rebound, Ampadu tried heading it back to him, but it put us under pressure as their player nearly got the ball instead. As the two minutes added on were ticking down, Aaronson was fouled but instead of us getting a free kick the referee played on. The City player to the right of us pointed to where he wanted the ball and his low cross in looked like it was covered by Rodon as he was in front of their attacker. Instead of him putting the ball out for a corner, the ball went past him to their man who made no mistake in putting the ball into the net with about 20 seconds left before the break. Sod’s Law and cruel timing once again where we were denied a free kick only for the opposition to score. No matter how many times I’ve watched this back, I couldn’t help but think someone shouted the ball was theirs and he left it unless he was further away from the ball than it looked.
The second half saw no changes as Leeds started out on the attack with a great cross in from Stach. Sadly, the ball didn’t run well for Calvert-Lewin to get a shot in, but we won a corner. Darlow then made a second great save to keep them from increasing their lead. Once again, we saw time wasting tactics from City who were going to protect their lead no matter what. Leeds started to pile the pressure on and Bijol came close with a header but with Leeds on a last attack, the referee blew the whistle to bring the game to a close without allowing anything extra for the time wasting. With a couple of their players on the floor at the end, I knew we had given them a game where we had put them under a lot of pressure. It’s such a shame we couldn’t have got an equaliser that us fans were desperate for, but it wasn’t to be.
With a second home game on Tuesday against Sunderland and the FA Cup game against Norwich next week, it’s a week of home games. Sadly, the Crystal Palace game has now moved to Sunday which has impacted on a lot of fans due to train disruptions and also Mother’s Day! Bang goes my family meal although I did warn them it could change.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
