Crystal Palace v Leeds United
15th March 2026 at Selhurst Park
2025/26 Season
In all my years of following Leeds United, I’ve seen bribed referees, incompetent referees, biased referees with some like Jack Taylor who were good ones. The referee at Palace today took incompetency to extreme levels for sending Gudmundsson off when he’d no idea, he’d already booked him! Having to be told he’d already booked him and had to give a red card, well, I’ve seen it all now. It feels like every week they are having a challenge to see who can be worse than the previous ones. To say this is supposed to be the best league in the world, all I can say is the game has gone if that’s the case. When we brought the game into “disrepute for not being sporting” we were punished so to see one of their players doing a dance with the sending off, well the same should happen to him. Will it happen? I doubt it.
For once I wasn’t up at a silly hour for the 5.30am coach to Palace as I was already in London. Friday night saw the launch party for the Starting XI of which I’m one as a Leeds United fan for Fanalysis - https://www.fanalysis.com/ and a good night was had as fans from different clubs came together. As Leeds should have been playing yesterday, I had to change my plans and stay an extra night but luckily was able to stay with my friend Nikki at her friend’s house. I was also taken on a tour of London and have probably seen more of the capital than I ever have so thank you. We got to the ground in plenty of time and waited for the coach to arrive so we could leave our things on there and go into the ground.
I also want to say a big thank you to those who made me feel like a celebrity today by singing to me as well as those chatting and having photos. As always, this is what being a Leeds fan is all about, having a great fan base and the camaraderie that we all have between us, which is second to none.

Booked: Gudmundsson, Bijol.
Sent off: Gudmundsson.
There was a strong icy wind as the game kicked off with Leeds defending at our end. Darlow was nearly punished by not getting rid of the ball quickly enough and was nearly caught in possession. The linesman in front of us was way behind play when their player was at least a yard offside and then they won a corner when it should have been a free kick to us. Aaronson had an early chance that went wide and a Calvert-Lewin header was saved by their keeper. Another save was made from Calvert-Lewin on the line, but the ball was still deemed to be touching the line. When Palace won a free kick in front of us, the ref had a word with our player and told him to stand behind the sprayed line. It didn’t make sense as he was further back anyway and as someone next to me said, “Have the rules changed or something?”, making them up as they go along more likely. After withstanding pressure from Palace, Leeds started to get on top and were awarded a penalty for handball. In typical Leeds United fashion, everything went pear shaped very quickly as Calvert-Lewin missed the goal altogether with the penalty, and things got very tasty as it looked like Bijol might get sent off. The next minute Gudmundsson was the one who walked after the referee pulled a yellow card out and you could see he had no idea he’d already booked him. An absolute disgraceful decision as having looked at replays, he didn’t deserve a booking anyway.
By the time I’d climbed the stairs to the top of the stand, pushed through the crowds to reach the loos and got back into my place, I’d already missed five minutes of the second half. Luckily, I hadn’t missed anything. With us reduced to 10 men, Farke made changes to the side, but the lads put in a battling performance as we found that fighting spirit. Darlow made a fantastic save and then shortly afterwards made another save only to see Palace put the rebound into the net. My heart sank as I thought so near, but yet so far but thankfully we saw the offside flag go up, phew. Stach had a shot easily saved by their keeper, but the lads kept going until the final whistle to earn another precious point. I’m proud of the lads for digging in deep today because it wasn’t easy and when they came to thank the fans at the end, I think they realised how lucky they are to have fans like us. Gudmundsson then came over to us and went across the front of the stand shaking hands with some and in my case a fist pump, trying to say sorry. I think he was very unlucky because there was no way he should have got that second booking, especially as their player escaped a second booking for a worse challenge in the second half. All we want is an equal playing field but sadly, the standard of refereeing is going downhill rapidly.
Hopefully with 9,000 tickets for West Ham in the FA Cup, I’ll have more luck in getting tickets for my family to go. I’m still getting signs with songs about Wembley appearing in my music playlists. Maybe it is wishful thinking, but I’m still up for us getting there. Before that we have Brentford at home on Saturday with an 8pm kick off.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
