FA Semi-final v Chelsea (A)
-26th April 2026 -
Chelsea v Leeds United FA Cup semi-final
Sunday 26th April 2026 - at Wembley
2025/26 Season
The things you do to follow your team. If you count getting up at 4am, this was another 20-hour round trip, the second within a week. Hopefully it won’t take as long to recover from as the Bournemouth trip did.
After having high hopes this morning and wanting to get to the final, it wasn’t to be once again. The one thing my family wanted, was to see us score a goal at Wembley, having never seen one in all the times they’ve been there like I have, but that also eluded us. The one thing I’ve wanted over the years was for us to take the FA Cup seriously, so I’ll be grateful that we got to the semi-final in that respect.

To me our formation in the first half wasn’t right as they attacked down both flanks with speed without us being able to stop them. Leeds could have got off to a great start after a run from Bogle, then Calvert-Lewin put Aaronson through before the keeper made a vital stop with his foot. Chelsea nearly took the lead but thankfully the ball hit the bottom of the post, rolling across the goal. They did take the lead not long afterwards. Struijk won the ball, but when he went to control it, he stuttered as their player pinched the ball off his feet and passed to the wing. The cross was met in the middle of the goal and headed into the net. Playing tippy tappy football across the back nearly caught us out again but thankfully the shot was wide as we went in at the break still a goal down.
Bringing Rodon and Stach on at the start of the second half paid dividends as we set out to get an equaliser and Stach very nearly did but was denied by a great save by their keeper. Leeds were going to find out how multi-million-pound players spend more time cheating and time wasting than actually playing the football they are capable of. Leeds won a free kick, and their player went down taking the sting out of the game, so we lost the momentum by the time the kick was taken. Every little push was punished by the referee giving Chelsea a free kick which meant the ball wasn’t running for us. Their players spent more time on the floor with theatrics rather than playing football and once again the farce of the keeper being told to go down and get treatment so the rest of the team can have a team talk was a disgrace. Ampadu went to listen to what was being said and they didn’t like it, well don’t cheat then!
When Chelsea looked like they were going to increase the score, somehow, we managed to do enough to keep the ball out of the net. Okafor sent a great cross in for Calvert-Lewin to head the ball goalwards, but his header didn’t trouble their keeper as we ran out of time to get an equaliser. It was a disappointing end to our FA Cup run and my ambitions for winning the FA Cup for the second time in our history. As we headed out of the ground, I saw a yellow scarf that had been left behind that had been tied to all our seats. Sadly, one of ours was missing so I was just going to pick it up, but someone got their first. As I told them what I was going to do, they asked for a photo then handed me the scarf so thank you very much. Back in league action on Friday for our game against Burnley.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
