Chelsea v Leeds
10th February 2026 at Stamford Bridge
2025/26 Season
After a long day of 19 hours, it’s good to know that we came from two goals down to gain a draw and another precious point. It was also nice to know that we went above Spurs, and I’d love that to continue. It might have taken a while for the fighting spirit to come through but as I’ve said before, our best form of defence is attack. We had a bit of luck for once too, but to come away from the capital with something out of the game is a good feeling after more often than not getting nothing out of our trips there.
As I mentioned in my pregame reel, my blogs will be posted slightly later than they have been in the past. Since they take hours anyway, but as I tend to fall asleep doing them, I’m trying to get a better life balance by getting some help via my website manager. The stresses of sorting things out for the Billy Bremner Gala dinner have taken its toll over the last week too, but at least I’ll be able to share details with everyone on how to buy tickets during the next few days. The winner of the holiday to Cullen with the Billy Bremner online raffle has been informed and they have acknowledged their success. The raffle is open again and all tickets already bought are valid for the next draw. Please keep supporting our efforts as a lot of hard work is going into our fundraising with all profits going towards Billy’s statue in his hometown of Raploch, Stirling.

With Calvert-Lewin out through illness and Struijk out injured, it meant changes to the team, but it also meant that the opposition couldn’t second guess how we would play. When we saw the team and saw so many defenders in it, my first thoughts were that surely, we weren’t going to set up to defend? It did cause plenty of anxious moments especially when we were overrun in midfield, so it wasn’t a surprise when Chelsea took the lead. Although I thought it was tight for offside with their player on the wing, he wasn’t interfering with play. When Gudmundsson was brought down in the penalty area, our appeals fell on deaf ears. Chelsea didn’t do much after that though, so we were still in with a chance as we went into half time with only one goal between us.
They got a second goal from a penalty when Bijol pushed their player with no one around him. After just watching the highlights, it looks like their player swung his arm and caught Bijol outside the area but to give the blatant penalty away like that was the worst thing he could have done. Typically, as well, we’d made our first sub three minutes earlier and changed from a defensive to a more attacking formation. I’d said at half time that maybe we were going to do the opposite to what we did at Everton after being defensive in the first half here and come out attacking in the second. The lads behind us said shall we go at two down and I said we were going to get two goals back. Even if I said it as a joke, that’s exactly what we did do. When Bogle was brought down in the area, we were awarded a penalty which Nmecha duly stepped up to score. The equaliser came as Bogle kept fighting for the ball in the area and was brought down but the ball came to Okafor who hit the ball into the empty net to send the away end wild. It was absolute bedlam to say I was on the front row as excited young lads stood on seats and were falling all over us going mad celebrating. Although Chelsea came close to scoring again in the final minutes the whistle blew with the Leeds fans celebrating a great comeback.
Back in FA Cup action next week with our trip to Birmingham which will give those players on the sub bench some game time which no doubt they will need.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
