Leeds United v Brighton
Sunday 17th May 2026 at Elland Road
2025/26 Season
I can’t believe how quickly this last home game of the season has come around but to know we are safe was a great feeling.
It’s been another busy week as I was asked to film at Elland Road with Premier League Productions on Wednesday with three other Leeds fans. What was even better, was to be allowed to go onto the pitch which I never unexpected, so that was a big bonus. Sorry I couldn’t make it to Tetley’s in town to join the Scandinavians celebrating Norwegian Day, but I was able to catch up with some of them at Billy’s statue before the game. Thanks to all those who bought Billy Bremner badges today and thank you to Paul from Galway Whites for the chocolates. It was great meeting up with everyone, some Malta Whites and some from the USA amongst others. Once again, the same as at Spurs, I want to thank everyone for their positive comments about what I do for our fans and our club. As always, they are greatly appreciated. After hearing Farke say “our fans are second to none”, I’m going to take credit for that saying as he must have read my blogs!!

After plenty of rain this morning, it was nice to see the sun come out for the start of the game as we kicked off towards the south stand. Very early on, I could tell it wasn’t going to be an easy game for us. There weren’t too many chances for either side during the first half, but it sprang to life just before the break. Darlow made a fantastic save and luckily, they missed putting the ball into the net from a close angle. Leeds then raced to the other end and their keeper had to tip the ball over the bar as it deflected off their player.
At the start of the second half Brighton carried on with the pressure as Ampadu cleared off the line. Leeds had to keep defending strongly as Bornauw got in the way of the ball for it to go for a corner. Leeds then got a break as we raced forward and Stach saw his shot go narrowly wide. When we made a triple sub Gnonto broke away but his shot went narrowly wide too. Stach received lengthy treatment but was able to carry on but after another tackle went down and it was obvious that he wasn’t going to continue. I thought he wasn’t going to be able to walk off the pitch so was not surprised to see the stretcher brought on. I was surprised to see a photo after the game showing his was bleeding around the ankle so hope his injury isn’t too bad. Piroe who came on to replace Stach was unlucky not to score with more or less his first touch of the ball. I was expecting at least 10 minutes of injury time, but it was 9. Although Brighton still looked dangerous it was Leeds who did what we do best, as Calvert-Lewin capitalised on a defensive mix-up to round the keeper then put the ball into the empty net to send everyone into raptures. There’s no better sound or feeling when Leeds score a late goal and Elland Road erupts. What an ending to the game to send us all home happy.
We waited behind to see the team come back out with their families and the stars of the show were the children. It was lovely seeing them running all over the pitch and we know where to go for players of the future and need to sign them up! It was nice to see former player Rutter come and applaud us at the end of the game too.
Next Saturday sees our Billy Bremner Gala Dinner and a big thank you to everyone who has brought tickets and we look forward to seeing you there on what promises to be a great occasion with some Leeds Legends. A lot of hard work has gone into this behind the scenes. The last few tickets can be purchased on this link if you would like to join us https://buytickets.at/bremnerlegendteam/2183491
What happens next with relegation all depends on the Chelsea v Spurs game midweek but after West Ham getting beaten today, it may be that we send them down otherwise. I think I’d prefer it to already be sorted but whatever happens
I’ll see you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
