Bournemouth v Leeds United
Wednesday 22th April 2026 - at the Vitality Stadium
2025/26 Season
After not having a good night’s sleep knowing I’d to get up for football, I was thankful that I was travelling to the game by coach. I’m pleased to say that I slept most of the way there and on the way back, I woke up to see everyone was getting off the coach back at Leeds. I’d forgotten how long a trip it was to Bournemouth as the round trip of 20 hours after leaving home showed. I take my hat off to those Leeds fans who travel from this area and beyond for every home game which shows our support is second to none.
A big thank you to all of you for your support after getting a message on my Follow Me and Leeds United Facebook page telling me to “f**k off old bitch!” I decided I wasn’t even going to give him a response but took a photo of the comment and put in in public so everyone could see what sort of a person he was. As my head goes higher above the parapet so to speak, sadly there will always be idiots like this who think they have a right to be abusive. The better thing would be to just scroll past, thank you.
Thank you to those who have been buying the blue plaque Billy Bremner badge raising funds towards his statue in Raploch, I have now got a further delivery so will always have some on me so just ask if you want one. As well as this badge, there is a new design with either a white, blue or yellow background, three in total. Each badge is £5 to buy with all profits going to the statue fund.
Although it was sunny when we arrived at the ground, I decided to take my coat in with me as I knew that once the sun went in the temperature would drop. With Wembley at the weekend, this game was still an important one and I said we needed to get at least a draw out of the game to keep that momentum going.

I wouldn’t say it was one of the better games by us as we had to be on our toes to stifle Bournemouth’s fast attacks and there were plenty of them. It was always going to be a tough game too. Darlow made a magnificent save with his feet to prevent them taking the lead before half time.
Rodon replaced Bogle at the start of the second half and we came under sustained pressure. The formation wasn’t working and as Leeds were getting ready to bring more subs on, Bournemouth took the lead. The ball ran for them as they ran through the middle of the pitch to score. We did have a few good moves of our own with Gudmundsson and Okafor making some good runs down the wing, and Okafor saw his shot bounce off the inside of the post and back out again. How unlucky was that? A long throw in from Ampadu was causing all sorts of problems and the ball kept bouncing in the penalty area before Gnonto pounced, and his shot deflected into the goal to equalise. Another attack from Bournemouth saw them retake the lead before they got a third goal shortly after which meant we were down and out. Suddenly VAR got involved and we were back in the game as it was disallowed for offside.
Fantastic scenes in the final minutes of extra time when Longstaff hit a wonder strike into the goal to equalise to send the fans wild. The Leeds fans were bouncing now and how fantastic Wembley, Wembley, we’re the famous Leeds United and we’re off to Wembley sounds when we know we are actually heading there as well as, United are back. I loved it and climbed on my seat so I could see what was happening on the pitch until the final whistle blew. The team have picked up from the fans now on how much it means to win with the never say die attitude and not giving up, which is all I want to see in a team. Get in there!
For once I have been lucky to get tickets for my family on their memberships for Wembley so I’m looking forward to spending the day in London with them. I had to choose tickets to the left of the goal as that’s where I was when I was at the old Wembley in 1972 when Leeds won the FA Cup for the only time in our history. Four of those players Paul Reaney, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones and David Harvey will be joining us at the Billy Bremner Gala Dinner on 23rd May. Players from the greatest team I had the privilege to see under the great Don Revie. I want to see us emulate that team, win it again this year and see Ethan Ampadu himself lift the FA Cup!
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
