I was asked to appear on Sky Sports Fan Hub this morning for Fanalysis about tonight’s game alongside a Nottingham Forest fan Ellie. Things were going well until I received a Facetime and I panicked thinking it could be seen on screen, well that was until I was told not to keep pointing oops! At least we had a laugh about it but that’s where technology and I don’t go well together. Under the lights at Elland Road, well the twelfth man certainly made a difference tonight. It was one of the games too where I felt the love from many of our fans and I don’t think you realise how much that means to me so thank you.

After changing round to play towards the Kop in the first half, Leeds had a good seven-minute spell before Forest got a breakaway which had us all thinking it would be typical for them to score but luckily, they didn’t. Darlow made a great save to stop Forest taking the lead just after this. As it was Leeds themselves took the lead not long after Calvert-Lewin had been unlucky not to score when his header hit the crossbar and was cleared. Gruev put a ball over the top of their defence for Bogle to run onto to and slot the ball into the net to the delight of the Elland Road faithful. A few minutes later Elland Road erupted when we scored a second goal after good work from Aaronson who sent a ball into the middle. Justin on his second attempt found Okafor who hit the back of the net to put us two up. Darlow made another good save as we went into the break still two goals to the good which was nice to see.
The second half was only a few minutes old when Leeds scored a third. Okafor’s shot had been blocked then Gruev picked the ball up once again and sent a great cross into the middle which Calvert-Lewin chested the ball past their keeper. Elland Road was now bouncing which was great to be a part of. Leeds continued to play some good attacking football and limiting Forest to sporadic attacks. I noticed a lot of Forest fans had left the stand with a good 10 minutes to go and I thought the game isn’t over yet. Obviously I should never have thought that as they did score a goal then, but I’ve never seen an away support so mute after scoring a goal. There again, it was quite a surreal header from one of their giants so maybe they didn’t realise he’d scored. Play stopped for a while as Gruev had gone down in our penalty area, but play had carried on. I was worried when he didn’t move but my daughter said they were trying to stem the bleeding. As he eventually got up and changed his shirt, coming back onto the pitch, she must have been right. It took the sting out of the game though and when nine minutes of injury time was added on, I was counting down the minutes. Darlow made another crucial save in the final minute to keep the score as a 3-1 win. Another three crucial points that brought us nearer to some of the teams above us. I would love it to work in our favour to go above them but as there is still a long way to go, I will just concentrate on Leeds.
It’s another visit to the capital during the week for our game at Chelsea before being back in FA Cup action again next week with our visit to Birmingham.
See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
