Leeds United 72 Legends at the Hilton Hotel 6th May 2022
50 years ago to the day, I witnessed my favourite ever game at Wembley, seeing Leeds United win the FA Cup in the Centenary Year of the competition. When Clarke’s goal hit the back of the net in front of us where we were to the left of the tunnel, I was dancing and crying with my friends Sue Evans nee Isherwood and Janet Milner from Selby. Seeing Billy Bremner lift the FA Cup when presented with it by Her Majesty the Queen was my finest moment and a dream come true as my feelings were out of this world.
Apart from Jones getting injured in the final moments of the game, the day had been perfect and I just knew we were going to win the cup. From Tommy Steele leading the community singing who came out wearing white, plus Abide with Me and The National Anthem sung by the whole stadium which were spine tingling moments, these precious memories have stayed with me forever.
I feel privileged to have been there to see the best team ever and I was like a kid in a sweet shop meeting the legends again. It is quite poignant when I realised how many of our great team we have lost recently and it was very sad that Mick Jones was too ill to attend the event in the end. Thank you for another fantastic evening listening to great stories from our legends. LUFC – Marching on Together!
